01The challenge
WestRock’s IOPP 48-Hour Challenge was to enhance disability inclusivity by redesigning existing packaging to be more accessible. With 44% of people with disabilities struggling with packaging daily, and 65% requiring assistance to open packages, there’s a pressing need for change. Our task was to identify packaging designs that pose difficulties for those with disabilities, such as issues related to mobility, vision impairment, or deafness. The goal was to create a packaging solution using corrugated fiberboard or paperboard that is easy to identify, open, hold, and use, catering to the diverse needs and abilities of all users.
02Our solution
Love Bites is a chocolate packaging designed with inclusivity in mind, catering to all consumers regardless of their abilities. While Brookside chocolate is a convenient snack, opening the packaging can be challenging for many, especially those with disabilities: approximately 1.3 billion people worldwide. To address this, our packaging is built on universal design principles, ensuring it is easy to identify, open, hold, and use, regardless of physical or cognitive abilities. Recognizing that love knows no boundaries, we are committed to making our packaging accessible to everyone.
